The Operating Engineers, Local 148 Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications for the 2022 Scholarship Program. A $1,000 scholarship shall be awarded as first prize, and a $500 scholarship awarded as second prize. The deadline for receiving the essays in connection with the Scholarship Awards is Friday, March 11th. All essays MUST be POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE March 11th, 2022 to qualify for consideration.
ELIGIBILITY:
Eligibility is limited to full or part-time High School Seniors who are IRS-defined dependent children of a Local Union 148 active and/or retired members in good standing as of January 1, 2022, and who retain eligibility through the March 11th, 2022 deadline.
The dependents of the constitutional officers, as outlined in Article XXIV, Subdivision 1, Section (a), Paragraph 1 of the International Constitution, and employees of Local Union 148 shall not be eligible for the scholarship.
TOPIC:
The topic for the scholarship will be “What Unions Mean To Me”. Specific reference must be made as to how unions have affected the applicant or his or her family directly.
Applicants shall submit an essay between 500 and 1,000 words, typed double-spaced, with an original and three (3) copies forwarded to the Local Union Office. – Essays will be judged on content, clarity, and grammar.
All copies must be legible
The applicant’s name should NOT be placed on the copies
Any essays that are not postmarked on or before March 11th, 2022 will not be considered.
